“ i wanted to create a direct and effective redesign which makes the binding an integral part of the whole.”
Clamps, paperclips and assorted fixings hold sheets of collaged drawings. These simple fixings allow the books to be built up in an orgainic way . Explicit judgements are written into the work. For example in the series called The Price of Admission, where the same sequences of drawings has been remade 10 times. Each variation includes 2 distinct elements, a central area which uses images and words are drawn from plurality and fluidity of city life and assembled to form a comic strip which occupies the centre of the sheets and combines images with slogans, buzzwords and broken sentences. At the edges is a second area which contains comments and assesments and foregrounds the makers subjective ideas about “right” and “wrong” choices. Drawings are collaged, breaking familiar connections and creating indeterminacy and semantic instability.
These works are included in a number of specialist and museum collections (see C.V. for full list).
